Blind Students In Riau Fail To Have National Exams

Pekanbaru, Riau, April 17 (Antara) - Some blind students of special school for disabled in Pekanbaru, Riau Province, failed to have the national examinations because test materials were incompatible with them. "The government should have prepared special test materials for the disabled students, because they cannot use the usual test sheets like other normal students in general," said Chairman of Riau National Exam 2013 Sri Petri Haryanti in an interview with Antara here on Wednesday. She said the test material and answer sheets have arrived in several special Senior High School in Riau on the first examination day, Monday. However, she added, the examination committee found that the test material sheets are similar to those for normal senior high school students in general. "The incident makes several Specialized-Senior High School returning the test material sheets and delaying the national examination for disable persons," Sri said. There are only six disable-students who followed the first day of examination as they are not suffering blindness and other vision problems. The six UN participants are derived from Specialized-Senior High Schools in Bengkalis District, Kampar, Pekanbaru city and Dumai city. "There are only one to two students from each school who following the examination. Other students cannot follow the UN as they are unable to read the test material sheets well," Sri said. According to her, the UN committee in several Specialized-Senior High School has confirmed to the printing company to exchange the UN material sheets with the specialized sheets for disable persons who suffering blindness. "We did not get the definite time about the material sheets readiness. We hope after the sheets are distributed, we can directly start the examination," Sri said.
