BMA prepares reception of people to attend royal cremation
BANGKOK, Sept 4 (TNA) -- The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has prepared accommodations at about 100 schools and temples as it expects at least 3 million people will attend the royal cremation of late King Bhumibol.
Bangkok governor Aswin Kwanmuang said preparations for the royal cremation were almost done, including accommodations for people who would attend the event. He expected the people would start to arrive in the capital on Oct 23.
According to him, the BMA coordinates the accommodation plan with the management of about 50 public and private schools and 50 temples near Sanam Luang, the royal cremation venue. The governor expects at least 3 million people will attend the royal cremation and some of them may have to spend four nights in Bangkok.
Pol Gen Aswin asked people not to drive private vehicles to Sanam Luang because there would not be a parking lot. He recommended public transport.
Besides, the BMA are building miniatures of the royal crematorium near Sanam Luang and in Bangkok’s outskirts, where people can lay their funeral flowers.
The buildings are located at the Royal Plaza, the old compound of the Government Lottery Office, Nakapirom Park, a ground near the Memorial Bridge, a ground in front of the City Hall, Dhupatemiya Stadium, Phutthamonthon Park, Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Centre and King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang.
They will be completed within Oct 15. The royal cremation is set from Oct 25 to 29. (TNA)
