Canadian Governor General Arrives For First Official Visit To Malaysia

SEPANG (Malaysia), Nov 14 (Bernama) - Canadian Governor General David Lloyd Johnston arrived at Bunga Raya Complex, KL International Airport (KLIA) here at about 11.20pm Sunday night. Johnston who is on his first state visit to Malaysia was welcomed by Higher Education Minister Mohamed Khaled Nordin and Deputy Foreign Minister Senator A. Kohillan Pillay. Accompanied by a delegation including Canadian Assistant Deputy Foreign Minister (Asian Affairs) Peter McGovern, the visit is to strengthen bilateral ties since the establishment of diplomatic relations 54 years ago. Johnston will be given an official welcome at Parliament Square Monday and will attend a state banquet at night hosted by King Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin at Melawati Palace, Putrajaya. While here, he will call on Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and deliver a keynote address titled "Knowledge Diplomacy: Education and Gobalisation in 21st Century" at the Universiti Malaya. He will also participate in a roundtable discussion on innovation with experts from Malaysia Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT) and meet up with Canadian business community in Malaysia. Johnston who is on a four-day visit to Malaysia will also make state visits to Vietnam and Singapore from Nov 16-22. -- BERNAMA
