Chiang Mai Zoo rules out panda’s pregnancy

CHIANG MAI, June 30 – The management of the Chiang Mai Zoo officially announced the miscarriage of Lin Hui after the latest ultrasound examination of the giant panda. Wuthichai Muangman, assistant director of the zoo, said Lin Hui had been pregnant for 135 days and previous ultrasound examinations had always showed a fetus which had been last seen seven centimeters long. Later its progesterone dropped to a normal level and the giant panda did not deliver a birth. The latest ultrasound examination did not show the fetus. Specialists could not identify a reason why the pregnancy failed and past researches did not have an answer for the situation, he said. Zoo staff had done their best to support Lin Hui and arranged its quarter to be as close to its natural habitat as possible. Besides, they had sought advice from panda experts in China but the pregnancy was not successful. However, the Chiang Mai Zoo staff and researchers caring the panda were grateful for people’s attention and support for Lin Hui, Mr Wuthichai said. (TNA)
