Choose A Government That Will Be Able To Administer The Country Well - PM Najib
PEKAN (Pahang, Malaysia), March 12 (Bernama) -- The people need to choose a
government that is able to administer the country efficiently for continued
peace and prosperity, said Prime Minister of Malaysia Najib Tun Razak.
"Not one that is good only in talking or hanging a "moon" in the highest
place. Choose a government that is good in administering the country and
agencies, only then can wealth be created, and when successful, goes all out to
help the people," he said when launching 1Malaysia Vitamins and presenting
Yayasan 1MDB Foundation's contributions to needy recipients at Pekan Square here
Sunday.
Pekan is a royal town located at the east coast of Malaysian state Pahang
Darul Makmur.
Also present were Pahang Chief Minister Adnan Yaakob and Yayasan
1Malaysia Development Bhd's programmes director Dr Shamsul Anuar
Sulaiman.
Najib said the 1Malaysia slogan "People First, Performance Now" must be
translated into a reality so that it was truly felt by the people.
"The government through its economic and government transformation plans
(ETP, GTP) and administration based on Key Performance Indices (KPIs) has
succeeded in spurring good economic growth which last year was at 5.1 per cent,"
he said.
He said this was a good achievement at a time when the country and the world
was facing an uncertain economic situation.
"We also managed to grow the economy to RM1.3 trillion (US$1=RM3.01) last
year, a record that has not been matched before. Also attract additional
investments amounting to RM105 billion," he said.
The prime minister said the government's good track record had also enabled
various government agencies to make profits, which were used to help the people.
"1MDB is an example, when it made profits, we formed the 1MDB foundation
which looks into assisting needy people, like fishermen. The aid is channelled
through the Ihsan Samudera programme," he said.
The prime minister said that never before had the government provided
aid
for the people like the RM100 aid for students of primary and secondary schools,
RM200 book vouchers for students of tertiary institution and the RM500 1Malaysia
People's Aid (BR1M) for households with monthly incomes below RM3,000.
He said he hoped the people would value the government's contributions and
reciprocate likewise.
At the function, Najib handed over aid in the form of vitamins meant for
7,321 schools to benefit 516,472 primary school students under the 1Malaysia
Vitamins Programme.
It is hoped the vitamins will aid their healthy growth and help them further
improve their academic performance.
