Comprehensive breast cancer treatment offered in Thailand
BANGKOK, September 25 (TNA) - The Bangkok-based National Cancer Institute (NCI) now offers its comprehensive breast cancer treatment to patients in Thailand, covering the
solution to the frozen-shoulder problem in women after their post-breast surgery through an innovative technique.
NCI Director Dr. Weerawut Imsamran and Dr. Theerapol Topanthanont, Director-General of the Department of Medical Services, under the Thai Ministry of Public Health, publicly announced the comprehensive breast cancer treatment services at a joint press conference in Bangkok on Monday.
The two senior physicians said the comprehensive breast cancer treatment, offered by the NCI's Comprehensive Breast Cancer Center, is aimed to improve the quality of life of breast cancer patients in the country.
According to the senior physicians, statistics released by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) in 2012 showed that about 43.1 women out of every 100,000 world population suffered from breast cancer, 521,907 of them had died.
In Thailand alone, the IARC statistics showed that 28.5 women out of every 100,000 Thai population suffered from breast cancer, 12,613 of them were new patients and 2,896
of them had died in their 40-70 years old.
The senior physicians stated that the NCI's Comprehensive Breast Cancer Center has worked out its health service development plan for a systematic treatment of breast cancer patients, covering approaches on preventing, screening and treating breast cancer patients through advanced gamma cameras, the Oncoplastic Surgery and other innovative techniques.
The senior physicians revealed that the innovative solution to the frozen-shoulder problem of the NCI's Comprehensive Breast Cancer Center has also received the honorable Public Service Award from the government-run Office of the Public Sector Development Commission (OPDC). (TNA)
