Court accepts indictment on September 12 military coup

ANKARA (A.A) - A high criminal court in Ankara has accepted the indictment on September 12 military coup. The court will hear the case which asks heavy life sentence for former president Kenan Evren and retired Gen. Tahsin Sahinkaya. Evren and Gen. Sahinkaya take place in the indictment as suspects. Public prosecutor Kemal Cetin accuses Evren and Gen. Sahinkaya of attempting to change or eliminate constitution and parliament of Republic of Turkey. Evren, former president as well as chief of general staff, led 1980 military coup to end "the struggle between leftists and rightists". Sahinkaya was the Air Forces Commander in that period.
