COVID-19: Nine Thais Who Return From Myanmar Among 17 Tested Positive

By Linda Khoo BANGKOK, Dec 14 (Bernama) – Thailand recorded 17 new cases of COVID-19 including nine Thais who returned to Thailand from Myanmar’s border town, Tachileik, and zero deaths over the last 24 hours, bringing the tally to 4,209 cases and 60 fatalities. In a statement, the Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) said the nine Thai women working at an entertainment outlet in Tachileik, returned to the kingdom on Friday. The nine including four, aged between 19 and 30, returned to the kingdom via the legal channel and entered the alternative state quarantine (ASQ) facility, while another five, aged between 22 and 35, crossed the natural border and later sought the COVID-19 test at hospital. To date, at least 50 Thais working at entertainment outlets in Tachileik who returned home had tested positive for COVID-19. Two locally transmitted cases were reported. Following the recent outbreak, Thais working in Tachileik fled the border town. Many bypassed the immigration checkpoint and dodged quarantine. The relevant authorities warned stern action against those entering the kingdom illegally and dodging quarantine. Meanwhile, the CCSA said eight new COVID-19 cases were reported over the last 24 hours including four Thais who returned from the United States, Switzerland, Japan and Bahrain, and another four foreigners arrived from Switzerland, Pakistan, the United States and United Kingdom. -- BERNAMA
