COVID-19: Thailand Likely To Enter Final Phase of Relaxation On June 15

BANGKOK, June 4 (Bernama) -- Thailand is considering to further ease restrictions and reopen remaining businesses and venues including education institutions, entertainment outlets and stadiums for competition under its fourth and likely the final phase of easing restrictions, starting June 15. Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) spokesman Thaweesilp Wissanuyothin said the government is considering to reopen education institutions including schools, universities and tuition centres. The other businesses and venues including childcare centres, pre-schools, science centres, national parks, beaches, water parks, event halls, concert and trade fairs, he added. “Operators and organisers are invited to discuss measures to contain the spread of COVID-19 and prevent a second wave of outbreak,” he said at a COVID-19 daily briefing here Thursday. Thailand began its first phase of relaxation on May 3, in which six types of businesses and venues were reopened while the second phase was on May 17 and the third phase on June 1. Meanwhile, Thaweesilp said Thailand has reported 17 new COVID-19 cases – all Thais nationals returning from the Middle East and no new deaths, bringing the total to 3,101 cases with 58 fatalities. “All new patients are undergoing 14-day quarantine at state facilities. All of them had tested positive for COVID-19 during their second lab test. “Since April 3, a total of 31, 855 returnees have been quarantined in state facilities nationwide and 164 of them were tested positive for COVID-19,” he said. To date, 2,968 patients have recovered and discharged from hospitals while another 75 are still warded. -- BERNAMA
