COVID-19: Three Returning Thai Women Latest To Test Positive For COVID-19

By Linda Khoo Hui Li BANGKOK, July 18 (Bernama) -- Thailand reported three new COVID-19 cases, all involving Thai women who returned from Sudan, and zero fatalities, bringing the cumulative cases to 3,239 and 58 fatalities. Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) spokesman Thaweesilp Wissanuyothin said the three Thai women, in their 20s, were among 245 passengers on board the same flight with a Sudanese diplomat’s daughter who was tested positive for COVID-19. “There have been 12 passengers on board the same flight tested positive for COVID-19 to date,” he said at COVID-19 daily briefing here Friday. Of the 3,239 COVID-19 cases reported, 3,096 patients had recovered and discharged while 85 remain warded. Meanwhile, Thaweesilp said all diplomats and their family members previously allowed to undergo 14-day self-quarantine in their residences must now undergo quarantine at state facilities or alternative state quarantine centres. Apart from that, he said diplomats and their family members entering the kingdom will have to wait for the COVID-19 test result at the airport before entering the quarantine facilities. Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman and director-general of Information Department Cherdkiat Attakor said all diplomat entering the kingdom have to follow the host country’s regulations. “Diplomats are not VIPs but they are protected under the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. “There will be a meeting with diplomatic corps to explain stringent measures when entering the kingdom to control the spread of COVID-19,” he said. On Thursday, an EU diplomat returned from abroad was denied entry at her condominium as she did not undergo the required 14-day quarantine at the state facility. She was later transferred to an alternative state quarantine hotel. -- BERNAMA
