Creation Of Independent State The Only Solution In Ending Israel-Palestinian Conflict

KUALA LUMPUR, June 23 (Bernama) -- The only solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict is through the creation of an independent State of Palestine, based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine, said Deputy Foreign Minister Kamarudin Jaffar. He said this when delivering Malaysia’s statement at the “Online Extraordinary Meeting of the Ministerial Committee of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) on Palestine” on Tuesday. Foreign Ministry (Wisma Putra) in a statement on Wednesday said Kamarudin also reiterated Malaysia’s strong condemnation of the violations and aggressions carried out by the Israeli regime on Palestinians and reaffirmed Malaysia’s solidarity with the Palestinian people. The Deputy Foreign Minister underlined three actions that should be taken by NAM member states to support Palestine, including providing assistance to ease the suffering of the Palestinians. “To robustly pursue all legal, political and economic channels to pressure Israel to comply with all its obligations as prescribed under international law, the UN Charter and relevant Security Council resolutions including Resolution 2334. “And to urge those with influence and ability to end the conflict, particularly the UN Security Council and Middle East Quartet, to carry out their responsibility to ensure parties involved would reengage towards a negotiated peaceful and lasting settlement,” he said. The extraordinary meeting was chaired by Azerbaijan Foreign Affairs Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and participated by 12 permanent members of the NAM Ministerial Committee on Palestine, including Malaysia and Palestine. At the Meeting, Palestine Foreign Affairs Minister Riad Malki informed the committee that Israel’s oppression and assault against Palestinians as well as annexation efforts remains stronger. He called on NAM member states to support Palestine’s legal endeavours to hold Israel accountable for its crimes. He further called on NAM member states to end military cooperation and trade with Israel and to compel Israel to commit openly and unequivocally to end its occupation and respect Palestinian rights. The meeting then adopted a Political Declaration that called for urgent provision of political, economic and humanitarian support to assist the Palestinian people as well as support the realisation of their inalienable rights and sovereign State of Palestine, with East Jerusalem as its capital, on the basis of the pre-1967 borders. It also called for urgent measures to ensure the protection of the Palestinian civilian population in accordance with international law and pledges to ensure the implementation of the relevant United Nations resolutions in support of a just, lasting, comprehensive and peaceful solution to the question of Palestine. -- BERNAMA
