Densus 88 Looking For One More Suspected Terrorist In Bima
Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara, Oct 22 (Antara) - Police anti-terror squad Densus 88 has launched a hunt for a suspected terrorist believed to be hiding in Sumbawa Island in West Nusa Tenggara.
Densus 88 had earlier arrested a suspected terrorist, IS (35), in Bima on Friday.
"Another suspect is still at large and is now being hunted by Densus 88. However, we do not know for sure if the suspect is still in Bima on the island of Sumabaa," said the chief of West Nusa Tenggara province, Brigadier General Mochamad Iriawan, here on Tuesday.
Several months ago, the National Police Headquarters had informed the police about two suspects hiding in Bima, Sumbawa, stated Iriawan. Following this, a search was launched for the suspects, he added.
After months of efforts, the police finally arrested IS on Jalan Gajahmada in Pena To`i, Mpunda, Bima.
IS, who is known by locals as a hawker of cold beverages, was caught after Friday prayers. He tried to resist arrest, but the police managed to subdue him without harm.
"We always try to catch terrorist suspects alive so they can tell us about their networks and therefore, reconnaissance was carried out for months," Iriawan explained.
Iriawan said he hoped the suspect who is still at large will be arrested soon.
He stated the two suspects hailed from outside the province. "They did not conduct terrorism activities in Bima or other regions in the province. They were there only to hide," he noted.
