Electricity Minister receives UN official

Manama, Apr. 2 (BNA): Electricity and Water Affairs Minister Dr. Abdulhussain Mirza received Assistant Deputy Regional Director of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Deputy Director of the Regional Bureau for Arab States Sara Poole accompanied by UNDP Resident Representative in Bahrain. The minister praised the close cooperation between Electricity and Water Affairs (EWA) and the UNDP through the setting up the Sustainable Energy Center, which was established in 2013 to encourage the use of clean green energy and conservation of resources for sustainable development. The minister gave an overview of the achievements in the renewable energy and energy efficiency sector in Bahrain and the high percentage of national goals approved by the government. Ms. Poole paid tribute to Bahrain's progress in the field of renewable energy and keenness of the leadership and government to fulfill Bahrain's commitment related to the sustainable development goals adopted by the United Nations. Acting Director of the Sustainable Energy Center, Alexander Al Samahiji and energy consultant Rami Othman were present.
