Emirati doctor Maryam Matar selected as goodwill ambassador for Arab women and children
Cairo - April 9, 2012 (WAM) - Emirati physician Dr Maryam Matar, founder and head of UAE Genetic Diseases Association, was selected by the Arab League's Scientific and Humanitarian Development Program of the Arab Women Organisation (AWO) as ambassador of goodwill for women and children in the Arab world.
Head of the Programme Dr Suaad Suliman stated that Dr Maryam's selection was in a recognition for her many initiatives such as founding the Community Development Authority, starting the UAE Down's Syndrome Association and launching UAE Free of Thalassemia Association. She added that Maryam Matar's contributions included her involvement for many years in several programs and projects aimed at the welfare of women and children and finding ways to enhance their health mentally and physically. Maryam was chosen by the Arabian Business magazine amongst 100 most powerful Arab women in 2012. She was ranked first in the UAE and fourth in the Arab world in Sciences and Research category. She is currently finishing her last year of PH.D on genetic diseases at one of Japan's prominent universities. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
