Erbil- Orumieh Airline Launched

Orumieh, March 11, IRNA - Direct flies between Iran’s western city of Orumieh and Iraq’s northern city of Erbil are available after the airline between the two cities was launched on Sunday in the attendance of a number of Iraqi and Iranian officials. Director of Orumieh International Airport Kamal Parhizgar said in a ceremony held to celebrate the event that the airline was officially inaugurated with the Sunday flight from Urumieh Airport to Erbil. Kamal Parhizgar said the flight would be two days a week on Sunday and Thursday. Pointing to the launch of Orumieh and Turkey Southeastern city of Van direct flies weeks ago, he voiced hope that these airlines help the boost of economic ties among Iran and regional countries. The Orumieh-Van airline was officially inaugurated with March 1’s flight from Urumieh Airport to Van. The flight would be two days a week on Friday and Monday. It should be noted that Erbil is part of the Iraqi Kurdistan region. Iran and the Iraqi Kurdistan region have enjoyed growing ties ever since the overthrow of the former Iraqi dictator, Saddam, during the 2003 US invasion of the Muslim country. In January, Iranian First Vice-President Mohammad Reza Rahimi stressed the necessity for the further expansion of the relations between Tehran and the Iraqi Kurdistan Region. In a meeting with Head of the Islamic Movement of Iraqi Kurdistan Ali Abdul-Aziz in Tehran, Rahimi said, ˈThe two nations enjoy brotherly ties and in this while the Islamic Movement of Iraqi Kurdistan, too, is one of the noble movements which is close to both nations.ˈ/end
