Erratic Weather Forecast For Christmas

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 23 (Bernama) -- The Meteorological Department has forecast erratic weather in the country on Christmas Day on Sunday, with rain in the morning and night and thunderstorms in the evening. In a statement issued Thursday, it attributed the erratic weather to the monsoon transition period which is characterised by rain or thunderstorms in the evening. The department said the weather is expected to be fine in the morning in most areas except Kelantan, Terengganu, Kudat, Sandakan, Labuan and the interior of Sabah where it is expected to rain while intermittent to moderate rain is expected in Pahang and Johor and several areas in Sarawak, such as Kuching, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Sarikei, Betong and Mukah. In the evening, rain is expected in several areas in Pahang, Johor, Kelantan, Terengganu, Sabah and Sarawak while most areas are expected to experience thunderstorms, particularly in Selangor, Sibu, Bintulu, Miri and Limbang. The Federal Territory of Labuan and Tawau are expected to experience some rain in a number of areas in the evening, it said. At night, several areas in Pahang, Johor, Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Kelantan, Terengganu, Sarawak and in the interior of Sabah are expected to have rain. Meanwhile, heavy rain is expected in one or two areas in Pahang and several areas in Johor as well as part of Sarawak up to Tuesday, the department said. This condition can result in floods in low-lying areas, it said. -- BERNAMA
