Flood Hits Five Villages In W Sumatra's Agam District
Lubukbasung, W Sumatra, March 26 (Antara) - A flood triggered by heavy rains hit five villages in West Sumatra`s Agam district with water levels of up to 1 meter on Monday.
The five flooded villages were Koto Malintang, Bayua, Duo Koto, Koto Kaciak, and Tanjung Sani, the head of emergency and logistics section of the Agam district disaster mitigation board, Rinaldi, said.
Three people trapped inside their flooded homes at Kularian Nagari Duo Koto had been evacuated using a canoe, he said.
"We have evacuated them to their neighbors` homes located on higher ground," he said.
He said the BPBD was currently registering flooded homes, rice fields and fish ponds and calculating total losses.
By Monday afternoon drizzle continued to fall in the area but the flood began to recede.
Agam Deputy District Head Irwan Fikri said all flood victims had been evacuated to safer places.
He asked local residents to stay alert for floods when heavy rains fell in the area.
