FM Calls For Expansion Of Iran-UNESCO Co-op

Tehran, April 22, IRNA -- Director of the UNESCO Office in Tehran, Tarja Virtanen, on Saturday submitted her credentials to Iran's Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Salehi.
Receiving the document, Salehi told Virtanen that Iran with its rich history and culture, is ready to help UNESCO promote its programs.
He said the grounds are prepared for cooperation with the UNESCO.
Referring to the UNESCO mission to promote peace and friendship among nations, Salehi asked the organization to do its best for protection of human heritage.
Virtanen, welcoming the Iranian minister's proposals, said Iran is a country with rich culture and history in the region.
She hoped that during her new mission, she would witness further expansion of Iran-UNESCO relations through use of experience of Iranian experts and officials./end
