Forensic service centre to open for public on June 1
BANGKOK, May 26 (TNA) – The Central Institute of Forensic Science (CIFS) will open the forensic service centre on June 1 to facilitate the public in evidence verification in order to access the justice process quickly and equally.
The newly-established forensic service centre will provide DNA tests, hair drug testings and document verification service to the public free of charge from June 1 -30, said CIFS Director Som Phromrot.
He said the three services are currently offered by the Police General Hospital and some private hospitals, where the service costs are quite high.
The institute has its own forensic experts and realizes that it is necessary to have more state center, offering forensic science service to help victims in criminal and civil cases and legacy disputes.
On the first month of its opening, the free service will be limited 10 cases of document verification, 20 hair drug testings and 50 DNA tests. The fee will be charge from July onwards and the prices will be charged only for the equipment with no additional charge for the service.
The cost of the document verification will start at 1,000 to 50,000 baht, depending on the number of the documents. A hair drug testing costs 5,000 baht and a DNA test costs around 5,000-6,000 baht. (TNA)
