Former TV host given suspended jail term in high-profile mini cooper case

BANGKOK, June 30 (TNA) – The Bangkok South Criminal Court on Friday handed down two-year suspended jail terms for former TV host Akanat “Nott” Ariyaritwikul and his friend for colluding to assault a motorcycle driver after a minor road accident last year. The court initially sentenced Mr Akanat and his friend, Witawat Sribanditmongkol each to two years in prison. However, their jail terms were commuted to one year because they confessed to the crime. As it is their first offence and they have never been sentenced to prison before, the court finally decided to suspend their jail terms for two years. The duo were ordered to carry out 24 hours of social service and must report to the Probation Department every three months for one year. Earlier, he agreed to pay 180,000 baht in compensation to the plaintiff to settle the dispute in the civil court and the plaintiff didn’t appeal. Mr Akanat’s case received attention from the public after a video clip, showing he assaulted Mr Kittisak went viral on social network. In the video clip, he shouted and ordered Kittisak, a motorcycle driver to prostrate himself before his Mini Cooper to apologize for sideswiping his car in a minor road accident. (TNA)
