Four Killed While On Way To Attend Funeral

BANGKOK, Jan 30 (Bernama) – Four villagers who were on their way to attend a funeral at a nearby village, were killed when gunmen attacked them in Nong Chik district, Pattani, last night. Nong Chik police chief Pol Col Chonvee Chamarerk said four others were injured when gunmen sprayed bullets at their pick-up at about 10pm. Police found dozens of spent AK-47 and M16 bullets at the scene as well as an AK-47 gun inside the pick-up. A witness who escaped the attack claimed that they were attacked by a group of armed men wearing Ranger uniforms. He identified those killed as Ishak, 60, Usman, 60, Muhamad, 60, and Mustafa, 18, a student. The witness who declined to be identified claimed that five others were injured including himself, with three of them in critical condition. He said they hailed from Kampung Tanjung Buluh, Nong Chik and were on their way to attend a funeral at a nearby village when the attack occurred at 8.30pm. "The gunmen just fired their AK-47 and M-16 at our vehicle. I managed to take cover and escaped the attack. It is not true that they found one AK-47 inside our pick-up," he said. -- BERNAMA
