German Ambassador's Official Residence Promote Cultural Diplomacy Through Wall Murals

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 1 (Bernama) -- The German Ambassador’s official residence here came up with three different wall murals promoting the country’s cultural diplomacy in conjunction with the 30th anniversary of the reunification of Germany which will be observed this Saturday (Oct 3). The embassy’s Charge d'affaires, Dr David Krivanek, said the German-Malaysian-themed graffiti art on the wall of the residence in Jalan Langgak Golf here symbolises the rich cultural relationship between both countries in an unconventional way. “The three graffiti drawings made on a wall outside the residence depicts the dove as a symbol of peace, having wings with stripes of Germany and Malaysian flag; and a bus loaded with both Malaysian and German citizens having a drink together, symbolising the strong bond between both countries. “The third graffiti mural depicts both Malaysian and German citizens exchanging greetings in their respective languages, which promotes the culture of both countries,” he told Bernama after launching the wall murals at the German Ambassador’s residence Thursday. Krivanek said three teams of talented mural graffiti artists – Perol Graffiti, Studio Behind 90, and Fritilldea – presented their artworks and ideas. The diplomat said the project is also aimed at supporting the creative sectors that were struck the hardest by the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic while encouraging freedom of expression through arts. “We have placed the murals in a strategic location outside our wall to show Malaysians how special the German Unity Day for us is,” he said. The mural graffiti will remain open for viewing from today (Oct 1) until Nov 1. Members of the public are invited to take pictures and tag the Embassy @German Embassy Kuala Lumpur on Facebook or @GermanyinMalaysia on Instagram for a chance to win a prize. -- BERNAMA
