GLOBAL AGENDA FOR SUSTAINABLE LIVESTOCK MEETING TO TAKE PLACE IN ULAANBAATAR

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The 8th Global Agenda for Sustainable Livestock (GASL) Meeting will be held on June 11-15 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
The Global Agenda for Sustainable Livestock is a partnership of livestock sector stakeholders committed to the sustainable development of the sector. With global population projected to reach 9.6 billion in 2050, the livestock sector’s role in sustainable food and agriculture will continue to increase. The Agenda builds consensus on the path towards sustainability and catalyzes coherent and collective practice change through dialogue, consultation and joint analysis.
The five-day event entitled 'Towards Sustainability: Livestock on the Move' will cover initiatives such as a draft law to protect Mongolia's rangelands, efforts to create disease-free zones in Mongolia for beef and lamb to open up international exports; projects to establish mobile milk collection centers as well as sustainable cashmere cooperatives to help herders in Mongolia to improve their resilience and incomes.
Moreover outcomes from UN climate conference, COP23 and the 2018 Global Forum for Food and Agriculture as well as issues such as food and nutrition security, livelihoods and growth, health and animal welfare, climate and resource use will be discussed. On June 14, as part of the meeting regional policy forum on Conducing Policies for Sustainable Nomadic Herding is to take place.
Representatives from the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry of Mongolia, GASL, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, Global Dairy Platform, Arabian Pastoralist Community Network as well as herders will take part in the meeting, making presentations, discussing pressing issues and finding solutions together.
