Govt To Adopt Moderation Approach To Promote Global Peace - Malaysian PM Najib

KUALA LUMPUR, March 13 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak said Tuesday the Malaysian government will adopt the moderation approach to promote global peace and not just to build a harmonious and united nation state. The introduction of the concept in the country has made Malaysia one of the countries qualified to promote it to the world community, he said in the Lower House of Parliament. Najib was replying to a supplementary question from Idris Haron, a member of Parliament who had wanted to know how the world perceived the adoption of the moderation approach concept in Malaysia. Earlier, replying to the original question from Hadi Awang, another member of parliament, the prime minister said the government introduced the concept in line with the vision of the national leadership to achieve a balance in bringing about greater harmony among people of various races, religions, cultures and customs. Najib said the concept is an approach that is not extreme or unreasonable but, at the same time, it is not too lax or one that takes things lightly. "It does not mean doing anything less than the teachings of Islam," he said. Najib said the concept was an approach implemented continuously in the existing policies of the government and daily life in line with its objective to promote unity and harmony for the success of the individual, family, society and nation. -- BERNAMA
