Green Economy Forum kicks off

Manama, July 2 (BNA): The Middle East and North Africa High-Level Forum on the Green Economy 2019, today kicked off in Manama under the patronage of the Supreme Council for Environment (SCE).
The SCE organized the forum in collaboration with the World Green Economy Organization and the United Nations.
Minister of Electricity and Water, Dr. Abdulhussain bin Ali Mirza, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Bahrain Center for Strategic, International and Energy Studies (Derasat), Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, attended the opening of the three-day forum that aimed at exchanging experiences and supporting the green economy agenda in the region.
SCE Executive Director Dr. Mohammed Mubarak Bin-Daina, in his opening speech, said hosting the event is a good opportunity for Bahrain to benefit from the experiences of other countries and to keep pace with development, as well as promoting the national economy and attracting investments without disturbing the environment.
Bin-Daina said Bahrain, in line with the Bahrain Economic Vision 2030, has been focusing on diversifying its non-oil economy and searching for solutions to support the growth of the national economy through concentrating on the development of the green and blue economy to achieve a sustainable and environmentally conservative economy.
He emphasized Bahrain's interest in ecotourism, which contributes to the growth of the environmental economy and other sectors, such as tourism and hospitality, pointing out the world's largest underwater theme park and the pearl route projects.
He praised the Sustainable Energy Center chaired by the Electricity and Water Minister, which aims to rationalize energy by relying on renewable sources of energy, such as sun and wind.
