Group Wants To Show Beauty Of Islam Through Songs

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 29 (Bernama) -- Muslim hip-hop group, Native Deen, will intensify efforts to come up with more easy-to-understand and appealing Islamic songs to help arrest the fear about Islam or Islamophobia that is plaguing in the West. The African-American trio of Joshua Salaam, 39, Naeem Muhammad, 37 and Abdul-Malik Ahmad, 37, believe that beautiful Islamic messages channelled through songs and melodies could definitely assist in educating the world about Islam. "We want to show the beauty of Islam through songs and make people understand the truth about Islam," he told a news conference at Wisma Bernama, here Tuesday. The trio born and raised in America as Muslims, who were neighbours in Washingston D.C, united in 2000 to form the Native Deen to pursue their profesional career in the music industry together in order to highlight issues confronting Muslims living in America. Native Deen has performed in over 60 cities around the world inspiring Muslims and non-Muslims alike and are ranked as one of the Top Five bands in its genre on MySpace. They are here in Malaysia for the first time to promote their second album entitled "Not Afraid To Stand Alone". The group will hold a Islamic Nesheed Dinner Show at Dewan Perdana Felda here on March 3 at 8pm with the theme "Love Our Prophet Love Our Deen". -- BERNAMA
