Heavy rain remains in most parts of Northeast

NAKHON PHANOM, Aug 28 (TNA) – Heavy rain triggered floods in many provinces all over the country while rainfall continues in most parts of the Northeast, influenced by tropical storm Pakhar, downgraded to the active low pressure cell, according to the Metrological Department. In Nakhon Phanom, the water in the Mekong River remains high, posing a flood threat in the province’s five districts and the water drainage from the branches of the Mekong River is slow. Local disaster prevention and mitigation office has instructed villagers to monitor the water situation closely and shuttle boat operators are warned not to load overcapacity due to high level of the raging river. In Nakhon Sawan’s Nong Bua district, the business area has been hit by a flash flood following several hours of rainfall. Roads have been under water and the Wat Thep Sutthawat School announced to close. The Royal Irrigation Department has managed sluice gates of the canal network to reduce the northern run-off flowing into the Chao Phraya dam in Chai Nat to prevent flood in the provincial seat. In the southern island of Phuket, overnight rain has triggered flooding on several parts roads in the provincial seat, Kathu district and Thalang district. Small vehicles cannot pass flooded roads. Local authorities also warned local residents, living near the foot of mountains to beware of mudslide and red flags have been placed to ban swimming in rough sea. (TNA)
