Indonesia, Cambodia Discuss Observer Team At Thai-Cambodian Border

JAKARTA, March 6 (Bernama) -- Indonesian Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa and his Cambodian counterpart Hor Namhong discussed on Monday in Phnom Penh the sending of an Indonesian observer team to the Thai-Cambodian border. They discussed, among others, the terms of reference on despatching an observer team in line with the decision of the International Court on July 18 last year and as directed by Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to find a solution to the Thai-Cambodian border conflict. "We are thankful that the border situation at the moment is far more stable compared to the same time last year," he was quoted in a statement from the Indonesian Foreign Ministry, here, Monday. Natalegawa will also be talking to the Thai Foreign Minister soon to finalise the plan of sending an Indonesian observer team. Apart from that, the Indonesian and Cambodian foreign ministers discussed various bilateral and regional issues. They also agreed to step up bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and Cambodia, including following up on the agreements made by the Indonesian President and Cambodian Prime Minister on the sidelines of the Asean Summit last November in Bali. "Indonesia and Cambodia will, among others, focus on cooperating in food safety, air communication and investment in telecommunications," said Natalegawa. To monitor the development of cooperation in all these sectors, both ministers will re-activate the Indonesian-Cambodian Joint Commission this year after being dormant since 2006. -- BERNAMA
