Indonesia To Return 48 Tonnes Of Frozen Fish To Pakistan

By Ahmad Fuad Yahya JAKARTA, Jan 28 (Bernama) -- Indonesia will send back 48 tonnes of frozen fish to its exporters in Pakistan after the authorities in North Sumatra found the consignment to have been illegally imported and the fish containing formalin preservatives. A spokesman of Indonesia's marine affairs and fisheries ministry said the two containers of mackerel fish were brought in through a port in Belawan, Medan. The move to send back the consignment showed that the ministry does not compromise on the quality of fish imported into the country, the spokesman said. The fish were found to contain between 0.25 and 0.8 per cent of formalin, a banned substance in food products in Indonesia. -- BERNAMA Malaysia
