International NGOs Compliment Drug Agency's Fight Against Drugs

INTERNATIONAL NGOS COMPLIMENT DRUG AGENCY'S FIGHT AGAINST DRUGS KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 11 (Bernama) -- The National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK)'s fight against the dadah menace through treatment and rehabilitation programmes received bouquets from international non-governmental organisations at the International Federation of Non-Governmental Organisations (IFNGO) conference recently. At the conference, the AADK offered the service of its drug treatment and rehabilitation programmes to those who wished to recover voluntarily from dadah addiction. Queensland Network of Alcohol Drug Agency (Australia) representative Maggie O'Cornell said the approach used by AADK was acceptable to local and foreign delegates. "The client's journey is seamless with many choices to suit their needs. Every evidence-based support is available. "Allowing short-term residence is cost-effective, limits failure and more appropriate to people's life, particularly women," she said in a statement issued by AADK here Thursday. Also complimenting AADK was International Drug Policy Consortium chairman Mike Trace who described its approach as "amazing". Meanwhile, a representative from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, Gary Lewis, said the Klinik Cure and Care 1Malaysia was interesting and appropriate for those wanting to obtain treatment and rehabilitation voluntarily. Earlier in his opening speech at the conference, two days ago, Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin had complimented the close ties forged between AADK and NGOs to eradicate dadah addiction. About 40 conference participants will visit the Klinik Cure and Care 1Malaysia in Sungai Besi and Cure and Care Service Centre in Chow Kit Friday. The four-day IFNGO conference was organised by the Australian National Council on Drugs, with the cooperation of Pemadam. A total of 43 IFNGO country members participated in the conference which was a forum for policy makers and professional groups in galvanising expertise in the Asia Pacific. -- BERNAMA
