Iranian lawmaker says his country supports a Mideast without atomic bombs

ANKARA (A.A) - The head of Iranian Parliament's National Security & Foreign Policy Commission said on Friday that Iran was supporting a Middle East without atomic bombs. Alaeddin Boroujerdi said even presence of only one bomb posed a serious threat for world peace, and Iran was therefore backing a Middle East without an atomic bomb. "We hope Turkey has a similar opinion," Boroujerdi said during his meeting with Oguz Kagan Koksal, the chairperson of Turkish Parliament's National Defense Committee, in Ankara. Boroujerdi said every country had the right to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. Also, Boroujerdi said both Turkey and Iran had suffered much from terrorism, and defined PKK and PJAK as serious problems for both countries. "We need to stage a serious fight against this problem," he said. Boroujerdi said not only certain countries but also the entire world should launch joint fight against terrorism. On Syria, Boroujerdi said countries should help Syria to overcome the current challenges. Also speaking in the meeting, Oguz Kagan Koksal said developments in Middle East and North Africa were closely concerning Turkey and Iran, and a boosted cooperation between Turkey and Iran would contribute to a peaceful atmosphere in the Middle East.  Koksal said terrorists were positioned at intersection point of Turkey-Iran border, and therefore they could shift to either Turkey or Iran when one of the countries staged operations. Terrorism could more rapidly overcome if Turkey and Iran countered jointly, Koksal said. Koksal also said Turkey was trying to cut resources of terrorism with not only security measures but also its democracy and freedom initiatives.
