IRNA Chief Calls For Expansion Of Media Co-op With Russia

Tehran, May 14, IRNA – Managing Director of the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) Ali Akbar Javanfekr on Sunday called for expansion of media cooperation with Russia. Javanfekr made the remarks in a meeting with the visiting advisor to the Russian government in Tehran on Sunday. The Russian delegation inspected various sections of IRNA on Sunday to get acquainted with their services. In the meeting, Javanfekr called for expansion of relations and cooperation between the two countries and underlined that mutual media collaboration would uphold the status of both countries at international levels and increase their influence on global developments. The complexity of global developments is on the rise, Javanfekr said adding "We should identify those problems and find solutions to them." The nature of the Islamic Revolution is based on defending oppressed people, administering justice and resistance against tyranny, he said. Iran has paid heavy costs to back the oppressed Palestinian people in its struggle with the atrocities of the Zionist regime, Javanfekr said. It is about 33 years that Iran has been paying all prices and has never backed down from its stance on backing the oppressed nation, he said. Due to Iran’s full support for oppressed nations in the world, the enemies of Islam have masterminded various plots against Iran, he underlined. Thanks to God’s blessings, the Iranian nation has tolerated all pressures, turned all economic threats into opportunities and reached the conclusion that it should solve its own problems with reliance on its nation, Javanfekr said. Iran has attained economic growth and is to continue its path with more success, he said. Thirty-three years after victory of the Islamic Revolution, the enemies are now resorting to various scenarios and plots to show their animosity and hostility, he said. A nuclear weapon is not a source of power or authority, he said, adding that the current global developments have cast shadow on the issue and those countries possessing nuclear weapons should find a way to immune themselves from such threats. Grounds for expansion of mutual cooperation and relations between Iran and Russia are well prepared, he said. The Russian envoy, for his part, said we have come to Iran to voice the willingness of the Russian president to expand relations and cooperation with Iran. Exchange of visits and views between the two sides officials would help broaden cooperation between the two countries, he said./end
