Jeenbekov on need for CIS countries to move away from Soviet education system

Bishkek, Oct. 11, 2018. /Kabar/. The 5th Congress of Teachers and Education Workers of the Member States of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) has kicked off on Thursday in Bishkek. Kyrgyz President Sooronbay Jeenbekov took part in the opening ceremony of this platform. Having warmly welcomed the specialists from the post-Soviet countries, the country leader paid special attention to the need to form a new education system. “We are pleased that the congress of teachers - possessors of the most noble profession is taking place here, in Kyrgyzstan, where education is the main priority of state policy. As you well know, the Soviet education system was adequate for the needs of that society, and quite successfully met the demands of the economy, social life, government and defense,” the President began. As a whole, he said, it all represented a competitive education system in the world, that the general educational space allowed us to adopt successful practices from each other. “A lot has changed since then. On the one hand, following the political processes, the general educational space also desintegrated. On the other hand, market relations have entered our lives, and the labor market has changed dramatically. New life in our societies demanded a new education system,” the President pointed out. Jeenbekov noted that the CIS countries now represent the most educated part of the planet and should not stop there. “Intellectualization of any activity in any modern country has become a general trend. Today, many countries in the world in search of a modern model of education, carry out reforms of the education system and science. We in Kyrgyzstan are also looking for ways to reform education,” the President stressed. The venue of the 5th Congress of Teachers and Education Workers of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries will be a place for specialists to discuss best practices in reforming the system, which will create an opportunity for participants to learn from the best practices. Discussion of problems in the system, as well as ways to solve them will be held within two days, from 11 to 12 October.
