Kledang Saiong Forest Reserve Set To Become Eco-Tourism Destination

IPOH (Malaysia), Nov 16 (Bernama) -- The Kledang Saiong Forest Reserve situated near here will be developed into an eco-tourism and eco-education destination for locals and foreigners alike, said State Tourism Committee chairman Hamidah Osman. She said the 2012 Visit Perak Year will be the foundation for developing the area into a tourist attraction for nature enthusiasts and hiking or climbing activities. "The hill area is unique because it is located close to the city and even exits to Kuala Kangsar and Manong. "Many routes are available in the forest area and will be upgraded for public use...we are told that residents of Jelapang, Menglembu and Taman Meru have been doing recreational activities here for the past 20 years," she told reporters after attending a briefing on the Perak Media Expedition to Mt Kinabalu, here Tuesday. On the expedition, she said 15 media personnel from various agencies including Bernama, RTM, TV3, TV Hijrah, Berita Harian and Utusan Malaysia will embark to climb the highest mountain in South-East Asia on Nov 27 and raise the 2012 Visit Perak Year logo at its summit. -- BERNAMA
