KPK Investigates Former House Leader In Corruption Case

Jakarta, Nov 5 (Antara) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is grilling former chairman of the Commission X of the House of Representatives Mahyuddin in a corruption case. The lawmaker of the Democrat Party faction is implicated in the corruption case of the SEA Games athlete house construction project in South Sumatra in 2010-2011. "Witness for Rizal Abdullah," Mahyuddin said upon arrival the KPK on Wednesday at 10.00 local time. He said he did not know for what he was summoned, adding "(about) budget, but that was already clear," he said. In Tuesday KPK grilled former lawmaker I Wayan Koster of the Indonesian Democratic Party. Koster was questioned about the revised 2010 state budget for the SEA Games 2011 especially for the House of Athlete in Palembang. Earlier, Director of PT Anak Negeri Mindo Rosalina Manulang told the court that the man called Mr Chairman (Pak Ketua) in her Blackberry conversation with Angelina Sondakh referred to Mahyuddin as the recipient of a share of graft. Angelina Sondakh was also former lawmaker of the Democrat Party now serving jail term in the same case. Asking to comment on the allegation Mahyuddin said he was the chairman of the commission , but whoever chaired a commission meeting either the chairman or the deputy chairman was called "Pak Ketua." Rizal, a civil servant, was charged with abuse of power causing financial loss to the state . He is facing a maximum jail term of 20 years with a a fine of up to Rp1 billion. In earlier court session Rizal admitted to have accepted Rp400 million from Mohammad El Idris the marketing manager of the contractor PT Duta Graha Indah as a "fee" from the athlete house project. A number of people including former Democrat party lawmaker and treasurer Muhammad Nazaruddin, former secretary of the sport ministry Wafid Muharam, Mindo Rosalina Manulang, and El Idris have been convicted in the same case.
