KPK Urged To Arrest Waropen Regent
Jayapura, Papua, Aug 28 (Antara) - People of Waropen grouped in Justice and Fact Finding Team (TPFK) urged the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to arrest Regent Yesaya Buinei, on charge of corruption.
Yesaya was charged with embezzling Rp3 billion in grant for the local General Election Commission (KPU) in 2010.
"On August 12, 2014, the mass media carried a report that four district chiefs including Yesaya were named suspects in corruption cases, but Yesaya is not arrested," Waropen TPFK chairman Kaleb Woisiri said here on Thursday.
Kaleb said he wanted the law enforcers took a firm measure against corruption suspects.
"We heard report that on Tuesday Yesaya was arrested at the Serui airport in the regency of Yapen islands, but the Serui prosecution office denied the report," he said.
Kaleb said he found it strange that the prosecution office asked KPK to re-audit the case although Yesaya was already named a suspect.
He said he was worried that the prosecution office began to flirt with the corruption suspect.
A number of other suspects in the case including head of the Waropen KPU Mekalina Wonatorey and other commissioners were dismissed in 2010 by the provincial KUP.
Investigators have summoned a number of witnesses including Melina Wonatorey for questioning.
