Kyrgyz film "Shambhala" wins two awards at international festival in India

Bishkek, Jan. 11, 2023. / Kabar /. The film by Kyrgyz director Artykpai Suyundukov won two awards at the International Film Festival of India, which was held in the city of Chhatrapati Shivaji, the press service of the Ministry of Culture, Information, Sports and Youth Policy of Kyrgyzstan reported. The picture of the People's Artist of Kyrgyzstan won in the nomination "Best Film" and was awarded the Shivazhi Maharaj Award for Global Leadership. The film is based on Chingiz Aitmatov's story "The White Steamboat". Its premiere took place in 2020. The film tells about a boy named Shambhala, which in Kyrgyz means "candle boy" or "boy radiating light." The protagonist lives with his family on a forest cordon, lost high in the mountains. To date, the film has won the Best Film of the CIS and Baltic States nomination of the Russian Nika Film Award in April 2021, the award for Best Director at the International Film Festival in Calcutta (India) and a number of other significant prizes.
