Langkawi To Host ISAF World Youth Championship in 2015

LANGKAWI (Malaysia), Jan 9 (Bernama) -- One of the world's most competitive sailing races, the International Sailing Federation (ISAF) World Youth Championship, will be held in this historical island on 2015. Malaysian Yachting Association general manager Mohd Afendy Abdullah said ISAF was honoured to have Langkawi organise the event, scheduled to take place for 10 days in December 2015 and involving almost 1,200 sailors from 80 countries. "Langkawi hosted the International Optimist Dinghy Association (IODA) World Sailing Championship last year," he told Bernama here Monday. Meanwhile, national junior sailor, Ahmad Shukri Abdul Aziz, failed to shine and only managed to finish in sixth position at the IODA World Sailing Championship in Napier, New Zealand. Mohd Afendy said, last year in the same event, Ahmad Shukri came in second overall in the World class and won the Men's class. Langkawi, officially known as Langkawi, the Jewel of Kedah is an archipelago of 104 islands in the Andaman Sea, some 30 km off the mainland coast of northwestern Malaysia -- BERNAMA
