Leaders of CIS countries to gather in Dushanbe – topics for discussion

Bishkek, Sept. 26, 2018. /Kabar/. The next summit of the leaders of the CIS state is to be held in the capital of Tajikistan – Dushanbe, on September 27-28. Presidents of Russia Vladimir Putin, Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev, Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, Moldova Igor Dodon, Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov, Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, and Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan will take part in its work. President of Turkmenistan G. Berdymukhamedov will not participate in the meeting of the leaders of the CIS state, because he will be in New York from September 29 to October 2 and will participate in the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly. At the summit in Dushanbe, Turkmenistan will be represented by Vice-Premier Purli Agamyradov. In addition, Ukraine will not participate in the summit, the Asia Plus agency reported. At the summit it is planned to discuss and make decisions on a number of draft documents aimed at further development of cooperation in the political, economic, cultural and humanitarian fields and other key areas of activity of the Commonwealth. As usual, on the sidelines of the summit meetings will be held in a narrow circle, as well as bilateral meetings of the country leaders. They are expected to exchange views on the interaction within the CIS. In addition, in a narrow format, the country leaders will discuss the question of chairmanship in the Commonwealth, the date and venue of the next meeting of the Council of Heads of States of the Commonwealth of Independent States. At the extended meeting it is expected to consider important issues of political interaction, further development of cooperation in cultural and humanitarian areas, in the sphere of security, as well as a number of projects aimed at improving the legal and organizational and personnel support of the CIS. In the sphere of humanitarian cooperation, the most important project is the Plan of main events for preparation and celebration of the 75th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945. Other equally important humanitarian projects are decisions on the implementation in 2021 of the Cultural Capitals of the Commonwealth Interstate Program in the Republic of Tajikistan. Under the draft decision, it is expected to be declare the city of Dushanbe as the Cultural Capital of the Commonwealth in 2021, as well as the announcement of 2021 as the Year of Architecture and Urban Development in the CIS. In the sphere of ensuring security and countering new challenges and threats, it is also planned to consider a number of projects. One of them is the Interstate Program of Joint Measures to Combat Crime for 2019-2023. During the summit in Dushanbe, CIS leaders will hold a number of bilateral meetings, and upon the end of the summit, the chairmanship in the CIS will pass from Tajikistan to Turkmenistan.
