Logo Contest To Mark Malaysia-Poland 50th Anniversary Of Diplomatic Relations

KUALA LUMPUR, March 31 (Bernama) -- The Embassy of Poland in Kuala Lumpur is running a logo design contest to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and Poland this coming June 21. Polish Ambassador to Malaysia Prof Krzysztof Debnicki said participation in the competition offering a cash prize of EUR1,000 (RM 4,872) is open to artists, graphic designers and all artistically gifted people. “We count on the creativity and ingenuity of Malaysians,” he said in a statement, here on Wednesday. The logo has to reflect the friendly and partnership like relationship between both countries, based on mutual respect and understanding, and should refer to the symbols and/or colours of the flags of Malaysia and Poland with number 50 being the mandatory element. Debnicki said participants could submit their applications through the newly-launched website, www.PL50MY.com, specifically developed in conjunction with the anniversary celebration. Dębnicki stressed that Malaysia and Poland, despite the geographical distance, have a lot in common, including in terms of population and territory size, as well as both countries strongly influenced by the colonial past. Few people realise that every year Malaysia is visited by about 25 thousand Poles and Poland is one of the main recipients of palm oil in Europe. While the diplomatic ties of both nations span half a century, the first Pole in fact had arrived on the Malay Peninsula as early as 1635. To this day, few Polish graves can be found in Malaysia. Poles have been coming to Malaya as missionaries, soldiers, merchants and travellers. The most famous of them was undeniably the outstanding writer Józef Teodor Konrad Korzeniowski, known to the world as Joseph Conrad, who travelled to Malaya at the end of the 19th century. In conjunction with the golden anniversary, the embassy has prepared various programmes including attractive cultural and promotional events both in the virtual and real life. “We plan to organise Polish music concerts, support pro-ecological activities by planting trees in various locations in Malaysia, we plan to illuminate iconic buildings in Malaysia and promote Polish cuisine. This will be an excellent opportunity to try Polish culinary specialities. “We also intend to donate symbolic 50 footballs to local schools and special needs institutions that we’ve been supporting. I cordially invite everyone to participate in those specially curated events to mark the 50 years of togetherness,” he said. More information about the programmes can be obtained on the Poland Embassy social media pages on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram under common nick @PLinKualaLumpur, #PL50MY and www.PL50MY.com. -- BERNAMA
