Magnitude 7.0 Earthquake Hits Southeast Of Loyalty Islands

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 11 (Bernama) -- A strong earthquake, measuring 7.0 on the Richter scale, was detected southeast of the Loyalty Islands Wednesday night. The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia), in a statement, said the quake occurred at 9.20 pm, with its epicentre at 868 kilometres (km) southwest from Nadi, Fiji and at a depth of 10km. A preliminary report from the department said it posed no tsunami threat to Malaysia. -- BERNAMA
