Malaysia Hopes Asean Region Remains Peaceful And Stable

NUSA DUA (BALI), Nov 18 (Bernama) -- Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak said the intention of the United States (US) to deploy its troops in northern Australia was a bilateral action involving the two countries, which Malaysia hoped would not create any tension in the Asean region. "Whatever happens, we hope the region will remain peaceful and stable with no unwanted tension," he added. Najib said the matter was not raised at the Asean summit on Thursday as it was regarded a bilateral action between the United States and Australia. Asked whether the matter would be discussed at his meeting with President Barack Obama, scheduled Friday, Najib said: "Malaysia's stand is to ensure the region continues to be peaceful and stable". On his meeting with Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, Najib said she apologised for not being able to proceed with her official visit to Malaysia, scheduled recently, because of the massive flood in her country. He said Shinawatra would reschedule her visit to Malaysia to next month. -- BERNAMA Malaysia
