Malaysia Lauds Auhip's Effort To Be Mediator To Solve Conflict In Sudan

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 27 (Bernama) -- Malaysia lauds the effort of the African Union High-Level Implementation Panel (AUHIP) to mediate talks between the Republic of Sudan and the Republic of South Sudan. According to a Foreign Ministry statement released here Friday, the talks were aimed at solving issues over the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) and other issues since Sudan separated into two countries. "Malaysia is confident diplomacy is the best way to find a solution to the differences and arrive at an agreement which will benefit all parties for the sake of continuous peace and development in the region," said the statement. As such, it was necessary for both parties to avoid making unilateral decisions, it said. "Malaysia is also echoing the long term commitment of Petronas which has been operating in both countries since 1995 in the development of the petroleum industry," added the statement. -- BERNAMA
