Malaysia Northern State, Perlis Promotes Its Food In Uzbekistan

From Adnan Jahaya TASHKENT (Uzbekistan), March 7 (Bernama) -- The Crown Prince of Malaysia Northen State of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, launched a Perlis food promotion here last night to mark the 20 years of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and Uzbekistan. The month-long promotion is designed to introduce Perlis to patrons of the Ark Amir Restaurant as well as the people of Uzbekistan in general. Tuanku Syed Faizuddin is in Uzbekistan as part of a week-long visit to the country as well as Kazakhstan. He is leading a delegation from the Perlis Islamic Affairs and Malay Customs Council (MAIPs). Speaking at the launch, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin called on potential investors to consider Perlis for their investments, saying the state enjoyed political stability and harmony. He said Perlis saw its economic growth rise to 7.3 per cent in 2011 from 5.4 per cent in 2010. He also said that the state had been able to provide 100 per cent access to water and electricity. A wide network of roads and the transformed agricultural and agro-based industrial sectors provide a conducive atmosphere for investment in Perlis, he said. The Ark Amir Restaurant is run by a Uzbekistan national who has been offering "halal" Malaysian food for about a year now. The menu includes fried rice, fried noodles, steamed noodles, chicken curry, "sambal belacan" and vegetable soup. Perlis has held food promotions in several other countries, including China, Australia, Vietnam, the United Kingdom and New Zealand. -- BERNAMA
