Malaysian Embassy Participates In Diplomatic Bazaar

By Jamaluddin Muhammad BANGKOK, March 5 (Bernama) -– The Malaysian Embassy in Thailand has participated in the Diplomatic Red Cross Bazaar here, offering delicacies ranging from nasi lemak and teh tarik to songket and sandals. Frozen pau, ice-cream, cakes, cookies and biscuits were also available at the Malaysian booth. Proceeds from the two-day event which ended today, will be donated to the Thai Red Cross Society for the benefit of flood victims in this country. Malaysian Embassy staff, including the ambassador, Nazirah Hussain, helped man the booth located at the Siam Paragon Shopping Complex here. Staff from more than 50 embassies, including the United States, Switzerland, Iran and Bhutan, participated in the event which also saw the sale of beverages, home equipment, health and beauty products. Visitors, among others, could also obtain Cuban cigars, Belgium carpets, Swiss watches and Netherland cheese at discounted prices. Thailand experienced its worst flood in five decades last year, with about one-third of the country inundated, four million people affected and about 700 people dead, with total economic losses amounting to about 1.4 trillion Baht (about US$45.77 billion). -- BERNAMA
