Malaysian King Visits Two Attractive Locations In Antartica

SCOTT BASE (ANTARCTIKA), Nov 24 (Bernama) -- Malaysian King Tuanku
Mizan Zainal Abidin visited two attractive locations in Antarctica on Wednesday
before ending his visit to the South Pole.
The King visited the Switzerland Fish Research Centre, which conducts
research on the blood content and anti-blood clot system of the various species
of fish that inhabit the ocean in Antarctica.
He was accompanied by Academy of Sciences Malaysia Antarctica Taskforce
chairman Salleh Mohd Nor and the Environment Division director of New
Zealand Foreign Affairs and Trade Ministry, Caroline McDonald.
The royal entourage also visited the McMurdo Station, a facility managed by
the United States Air Force.
The King, accompanied by Chief Executive of Antarctica New Zealand Lou
Sanson, then left for Pegasus Ice Runway Airport to depart to Christchurch, New
Zealand on a US air force Hercules C130, piloted by Major Paul Bernasconi.
Present to greet the King on his arrival at the Christchurch Airport were
the Malaysian High Commissioner to New Zealand, Mazlan Muhammad, and
officers at the High Commission.
Also accompanying him from Antarctica were Commanding officer of the 13th
Air Force, Joint Task Force-Security Force Antarctica, Lieutenant General Ted
Kresge, and about 10 international scientists and researchers who had completed
their task in the South Pole.
