Malaysian PM, Special Independent Committee On Emergency Meet With King Tuesday

KUALA LUMPUR, June 15 (Bernama) -- Muhyiddin Yassin was on Tuesday granted an audience with the Malaysian King Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah ahead of the Special Meeting of Malay Rulers scheduled to take place at Istana Negara (National Palace) Wednesday. The car carrying the Prime Minister was seen entering the main gate of the palace (picture) at 2.20 pm and left at 3.30 pm. It is learned that the audience was related to the numerous meetings the King had had with political leaders since last Wednesday. A total of 18 political party leaders had been granted audiences with the King, either face-to-face or virtually, as of Tuesday noon. Earlier, the chairman and several members of the Special Independent Committee on Emergency 2021 were also granted an audience with Al-Sultan Abdullah. The special independent committee, which was set up under Section 2 of the Emergency (Essential Powers) Ordinance 2021, has 19 members including experts in public health, education, security, public order, public administration, law, as well as elected representatives from both government and the opposition. On Wednesday (tomorrow), all eyes will be on the Special Meeting of Malay Rulers, which will discuss matters related to the efforts to fight COVID-19 and its implementation during the ongoing emergency. The meeting is the second to be held at Istana Negara since Al-Sultan Abdullah ascended the federal throne on Jan 31, 2019. The first meeting was held on Oct 25 last year. (photoBERNAMA) -- BERNAMA
