Malaysian PM's Twitter Followers Surpass 400,000

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 20 (Bernama) -- The number of Najib Tun Razak's Twitter followers surpassed 400,000 Friday. The prime minister, in his tweet at 4.59pm, announced that: "I got my 400,000th follower today (Friday)! "Thank you for your support, I look forward to more interaction with you all this year." At 6.31pm, Najib, who has been tweeting since Sept 21, 2008 under the Twitter handle @NajibRazak, added that he felt delighted and humbled for having achieved the number. "I will do I can for them and the nation," he added. Despite a hectic schedule Friday, Najib took time to tweet about his activities by telling his followers early Friday morning that his working visit to the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur had kicked off at Wangsa Maju. He also took time to reply to messages send by his followers. Besides Najib, there are many other politicians who have taken to micro-blogging to engage with the public, including opposition leaders. Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim has 126,440 followers so far, Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng who is DAP secretary-general recorded 276,230 followers while his father Lim Kit Siang has 48,675. PAS President Abdul Hadi Awang, meanwhile, has 11,666 followers while Kelantan Chief Minister Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, the party's spiritual leader, has 30,463. -- BERNAMA
