Malaysians In Cambodia Get To Taste Eid Ul-Adha Delicacies
By Linda Khoo Hui Li
BANGKOK, July 21 (Bernama) -- Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Malaysians working in Cambodia still managed to get a taste of Aidiladha (Eid ul-Adha) delicacies thanks to the efforts of the Women’s Association of the Foreign Ministry (Perwakilan) in Phnom Penh.
Malaysian Ambassador to Cambodia Eldeen Husaini Mohd Hashim said the embassy on Wednesday distributed a number of food baskets - Bakul Rasa Sayang - to Malaysians working and residing in Phnom Penh who could not return home due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
“In conjunction with Aidiladha this year, the distribution of the food baskets is a unique way of celebrating our “Kongsi Raya” spirit with fellow Malaysians here and at the same time in compliance with the host government’s restriction on public gatherings in a bid to curb COVID-19 outbreak.
“We hope Bakul Rasa Sayang will give them a taste of home,” he told Bernama when contacted from Bangkok on Wednesday.
He added that the initiative is one of the many novel ways embassy officials reach out to fellow Malaysians.
The Bakul Rasa Sayang food basket contained kuih Raya such as biskut semperit, kuih kapit and bahulu that Malaysians enjoy during these special occasions.
Besides that, Eldeen said the embassy also delivered boxes of kuih Raya to fellow Malaysians in two other Cambodian cities, Siem Reap and Sihanoukville.
