Malaysia's UTP, Oman's UON Ink MoU To Forge Stronger Ties
PARIT (Perak, Malaysia), Feb 8 (Bernama) – Malaysian university of Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) in Perak state held a virtual memorandum of understanding (MoU) signing ceremony with the University of Nizwa (UoN) in Oman to build a stronger academic and research relationship.
UTP vice-chancellor, Prof Dr Mohamed Ibrahim Abdul Mutalib, said the agreement emphasises cooperation in research, supervision of postgraduate studies, publication and a student exchange plan by September this year.
“We hope this collaboration will pave the way for more Omani students to study in UTP and the Southeast Asian countries, as well as strengthen our higher education value proposition, capacity and capabilities in Malaysia," he said in a statement Monday.
He said that the MoU was pivotal in strengthening and maintaining UTP’s sustainable relationship with UoN and other Omani institutions in the future.
"The MoU was initiated after a research visit to UoN last year to engage UoN as a collaborator for research under a Yayasan UTP grant," he said.
He said that since the visit, both universities have achieved significant milestones such as the selection of UoN as the international co-organiser of the International Conference for Management, Social Sciences and Humanities (ICMeSH) for the UTP World Engineering, Science and Technology Congress (ESTCON) 2020 which will be held virtually in July.
UoN also co-organised the UTP Inaugural Virtual International Seminar (VIS) 2020 last September, while the UoN College of Economics, Management and Information System co-authored two papers with the UTP Management and Humanities Department.
